The Boston Globe reported today that home heating oil prices hit a record of $2.75 per gallon. Barring an unseasonably mild winter, heating houses in the Northeast will cost more this year then ever.
It's mid-October and I haven't turned the heat on. Neither have many of my neighbors. And let me tell you, it's freezing cold. The temperature in my house hovers between 60-61 degrees.
I figure in November I'll turn it on but even then it will be 65, not the 67 from last year.
Even with these savings, I'll be spending hundreds more this winter on heating oil. Money that could have been spent on other things. Watch out consumer spending.
